Real Madrid loses by 1-0 at Rayo

Even after the return of the coach Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid is struggling to find a way in their matches as they were defeated by 1-0 on Sunday night against the second-to-last team Rayo Vallecano for the Spanish League match.

A day after following Barcelona’s clinching itself the 2nd straight title as well as their 8th in the last 11 seasons, Madrid is now trailing behind Atletico with its 9 points and with only three rounds remaining.

Madrid was coming into this game following a 0-0 draw against Getafe on Friday as they were trying to avoid finishing at third place for the second season in a row. Real Madrid has not finished outside of top 2 places for 2 seasons in a row since the seasons of 1973 and 1974.

Madrid is yet to win a match as it lost against Valencia and had draws against Leganes and Getafe and no a loss again against a team like Rayo.

Zidane said, “I usually defend my players always, but today I am not. We cannot play like this at all and I am also responsible for this. We did not do anything. I am upset because we could not send the right message. I am responsible for it. We need to apologize to the fans and to the club.”

He, further talking about his team’s performance said, “Everything about us was bad. The attitude and the game. We did not give our best effort in today’s game. There is no explanation for it.”

Rayo, which has promoted in the season, has only won 1 of its last 13 matches and with their 10 losses is in the last place.

The only goal of the night was a winner with a penalty kick converted by Adrian Embarba during the 23rd minute.

Rayo, with this win, has moved above the Huesca in the bottom rankings but it only remains at 6 points from safety.
