Shai Hope scores a century as West Indies whitewash Afghanistan to ODI series

Shai Hope managed to score 109 runs unbeaten as West Indies chased the target of 250 runs to win over Afghanistan by 5 wickets during their third One Day international match. With this West Indies clinches the 1st of their ODI Series whitewash over a team in the last 4 years.

Shai hopes scored his 7th century of ODI matches off of 149 balls as he helped his team to recover from the dreadful chase start as the batting order of Windies collapsed to the score of 4-2 in the 3 opening overs.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman, the spinner of the Afghanistan team got 2 wickets while giving away 49 runs as he first dismissed West Indies Evin Lewis at 1 run and then Shimron Hetmyer at 0 runs with both being LBWed during the 2nd over.

Hope led the team for recovery with the batsman Brandon King getting ousted after making 39 runs on s first ODI debut as the pair stood for the 64-run 3rd wicket partnership. It was Rashid Khan who bowled him on one of his deliveries.

However, Hope was able to find some more partners in form of Nicholas Pooran who scored 21 runs and then the Captain of West Indies Kieron Pollard who scored 32 runs and finally with Roston Chase who scored 42 runs not out to complete the clean sweep of the ODI series the last time West Indies claimed a whitewash of an ODI series was against Bangladesh back in 2014.

Hope scored his country during the 45th over of the innings as Chase was able to strike the winning scores with only 8 balls to spare of the innings.

From Afghanistan’s battings side, it was Asghar Afghan who scored most with 86 runs off of 85 balls whereas opening batsmen Mohammad Nabi and Hazratullah Zazai both scored a fifty each.

These two teams will now meet each other at the first of their T20 internationals on Thursday before facing each other once more in a one day Test match.
