Canelo vs. Jacobs: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez beats Daniel Jacobs as he unifies middleweight titles in Vegas

The middleweight unification clash held between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs held on the early hours of the Sunday morning ended with a win for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The fight was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Canelo, the Mexican fighter, who is the three-weight champion, managed to add in the IBF belt to his already possessed WBA Super and WBC titles. He got a win by points as he was awarded by three judges’ scores of 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112.

Canelo started the opening round with an aggressive approach as he sent his opponent on to ropes with a body shot. As for American he replied back with a combination of his own and switched from his orthodox style to the southpaw.

Jacobs started putting speed and power to his jabs during the 2nd as he tried to gain an advantage over Canelo with speed but Canelo again targeted his opponent’s body.

Jacobs was stalked by Canelo in the 3rd as his head was being targeted from hooks. Canelo kept on with his overpowering hooks while shrugging damage from Jacobs’ jab in the 4th round as he landed his on heavy right punch which was followed by an uppercut.

Jacobs kept on fighting on the front foot during the 5th and also angered Canelo as he landed a punch even after the bell for the round was struck.

The angered Canelo was seen in the 7th to pound his opponent and force him to hold. Soon Jacobs responded with a hook and then a combination.

The 8th saw both fighters exchanging shots at close quarters while roars from the crowd energized them. Towards the end of the round, Jacobs for the first time in the fight, was able to push Canelo backward.

9th saw Jacobs landing a crisp right and Canelo responding with his own rights. Unfortunately, he had to taste a heavy hook on the chin by the end of the round.

The New Yorker was aiming to fight his way back on the points in the 10th but Canelo managed to halt his progress with some decent singles.

Jacobs slipped during the start of the final round and tried to catch the eyes of the judges in the rest of the round. However, Canelo aimed at him with clear and clean shots to have his 52nd victory out of his career’s 55 fights.
