Durant scores 50 as Warriors beat Clippers by 129-110 to set semi finals with Houston Rockets

Kevin Durant is setting the tone for the Warriors this postseason. Simply give him the ball and watch him do the work.

Durant, who had his playoffs career high of 50 points, scored 38 of those points in the first half along with a triple-double from Draymond Green as Warriors defeated Los Angeles Clippers by 129-110 on Friday night to conclude the first round series of the playoffs with 4-2.

Durant said, “I might have scored 50 points but I missed some pretty good shots tonight. I think I could have had made some more tonight.”

With this series win, Warriors now move up in the Western Conference where they will face Houston Rockets for semi-finals. This is a rematch for the Rockets who lost against Warriors last year in the finals.

Houston Rockets, at that time, let their 3-2 lead slip away and Warriors won their 2nd NBA championship in a row.

Andrew Bogut of the Warriors said, “Rockets are similar to the Clippers. They run the pick and roll and we need to be well disciplined in order to beat them.”

Golden State Warriors are now in an unfamiliar place in their franchise history as they are now bidding to win their third straight NBA championship.

Steve Kerr, Warriors coach said, “That was one of the greatest performances I have ever seen in my life. Kevin is the ultimate weapon for the team and there is no defense to stop him.”

Clippers, earlier on Wednesday managed to avoid the elimination with a Game 5’s 129-121 win. Te made a splendid start for the game and then again in the second half, but they were not able to handle the intensity of the Warriors.

Durant, who is matching Portland’s Damien Lillard for being the top scorer in the playoff this season with 50 points, had earlier scored his playoff career high of 4 points in game 5.

The Game 1 for the semi-finals of the Western Conference between Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors will start on Sunday.
