Gold Cup; Antuna leads with a hat trick as Mexico beats Cuba by 7-0

Uriel Antuna who was not even on the roster of Mexican team was able to be on the team and scored a hat trick to lead the team big win over Cuba.

The Mexican forward was a last minute addition to the Mexican roster as he scored 3 goals with 1 assist for the top-seeded team Mexico as they defeated Cuba by 7-0 for the opening day match of the CONCACAF Gold Cup held at Rose Bowl on Saturday night.

Talking to CONCACAF.com after the game, Antuna said, “I am very happy to score 3 goals but the team also played really great, so I am just happy to be with them.”

Antuna happened to be the late addition to the team’s roster after Jorge Sanchez got injured in a friendly match last week. 21 years old forward from LA Galaxy was only making his 3rd appearance for the national team.

Gerardo Martino, the general manager of the team Mexico said, “Antuna took full advantage of the opportunity he had tonight. He was focused for a full 90 minutes and had an excellent attitude overall and made a very good show. It was nothing more than being a good night.”  Two goals for Mexico’s 7 goals were scored by Raúl Jiménez.

Up next, Mexico is going to play against Canada for a matchup between the unbeaten team of the Group A on Tuesday. Canada opened the opening play with a 4-0 win over Martinique held last Saturday.
