Miami Open; Kyle Edmund loses to defending champion John Isner

On Tuesday, the British no. 1 Kyle Edmund lost to the defending champion of the Miami Open, John Isner in two thrilling sets.

Edmund, who earlier made it into the last 16 in an exciting match against Milos Raonic, could not keep up his performance against the American player as he lost the match by 7-6 and 7-6. The match was played for nearly 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Isner, who is 33 years old, won the biggest tour title of his career last year in Miami. With this win, he now reaches the quarterfinals of the tournament where he will seek to defend his title against the world no. 1 Novak Djokovic or the Spaniard Robert Agut Bautista.

Isner during the on-court interview said of Edmund, “Kyle is constantly improving in his game. It is not like he is up and coming but he is already there. He was hurt during Australian Open but he still made it to win the Challenger. He has been playing great and he is a great player as well. In my thinking, it is only a matter of time before he makes it to the top 10.”

In other matches of the day, Greek sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas managed to defeat Leonardo Mayer by 6-4 and 6-4.

As for the Canadian teenager Felix Auger, he managed to defeat Nikoloz Basilashvili by 7-6 and 6-4.

As for the 11th seed player Borna Coric, he defeated the run of Nick Kyrigios at the tournament to an end by defeating him by 4-6, 6-3 and 6-2.

As for the women’s singles draw for quarterfinals, Annet Kontaviet of Estonia made a comeback from being 0-4 to defeat China’s Hsieh Su-Wei by 3-6, 6-2 and 7-5. With this win, Kontaviet makes it to the semi-finals of the Miami Open.
