Ovechkin and Backstrom make the 900th Washington Capitals game memorable with 6-3 win over the Devils

Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin were both able to deliver for the Washington Capitals once more just like they had done so many times in the past.

Backstrom scored 2 goals with 2 assists while Ovechkin scored his 22nd goal with one assist as Washington Capitals defeat New Jersey Devils by 6-3 this Friday night.

John Carlson also scored a goal for the Washington Capitals as they rebounded from their Monday night 3-0 defeat against the Columbus Blue Jackets. With this win, the Washington Capitals are now 16-3-1 on the road. The other two goals were scored by Jonas Siegenthaler and Richard Panik respectively while their rookie goalie Ilya Samsonov stopped 24 shots.

Backstrom said, “I think we never are satisfied after losing games. So it is always good for us to bounce back and get the points. I think this is what this is all about. I mean getting the points before the playoffs start. So I think we have been good like that for all the regular season.  So hopefully we just come and continue like this.”

Currently in the season, Washington Capitals are leading the league with their season record of 26-6-5 and is the only team of NHL right now to not have consecutive losses in the regular season.

Backstrom was able to hit the mark of 900 career points by making his 900th appearance for the Capitals alongside Ovechkin. Backstrom was selected by the Capitals back dring the draft of 20076 while Ovechkin was drafted by team only 2 years ago.

The 3 goals for the Devils were scored by Kyle Palmieri, Blake Coleman and Miles Wood respectively as the team’s first 3-game winning streak of the season ended. Their goalie Mackenzie Blackwood made 21 saves before he was replaced by Gilles Senn during the 3rd period.

Up next, Capitals will host a game against Tampa Bay while Devils will take on Columbus Blue Jackets next.
