Coco Gauff’s stunning run at the US Open ended by Naomi Osaka, the defending champion

Playing in front of a crowd of nearly 24000 spectators at one of the biggest venues for tennis, Coco Gauff of the Delray Beach, Florida presented her electrifying display of athleticism against her opponent; the defending champion of the US Open, Naomi Osaka.

However, her efforts fell short against the champ as he got defeated by 6-3 and 6-0. While Gauff was splendid on the court with her moment, the current world rank no. 1 Osaka was also not short on her pinpoint accuracy and shot-making abilities.

Osaka had earlier won the Australia One this year but since then had a tough 2019 and also lost the no. 1 spot for some time to Ashleigh Barty before regaining it once more in the US Open. Osaka became the world rank no. 1 after defeating Serena Williams in a thrilling and a controversial US Open women’s singles final last year.

As for Gauff, she started her play at the big league in the summer by playing at the Wimbledon where she went to the 4th round. She has already made history by becoming the youngest woman to have reached the 3rd round of US Open as the last one was Anna Kournikova from back in 1996.

As Osaka won the match, Gauff was clearly distraught but Osaka showing true sportsmanship consoled her saddened opponent. When the media asked Gauff what did Osaka said to her, she said, “She told me that I did amazing and if I would do the on-court interview with her. I said No because I knew that I would start to cry but then she encouraged me to do it.”

Gauff continues, “She has been really amazing and I am going to learn so much from it. She has been so sweet to me so thank you for this. Thank you and I also want to say to people that I am not trying to take this moment away from her because she really deserves it.”
