Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech; Kyle Edmund starts tournament with a win

Kyle Edmund, the British no. 1 starts the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech with a win on Monday in his bid for a title win.

Edmund, who managed to reach the final of the first ATP tournament this year, began his quest for a title win at the 250 clay court tournament by defeating his French opponent Ugo Humbert by 6-3 and 6-2. The performance was a sure fire one as Edmund looks ready to break into the world top 20 rankings this week.

Edmund, the 3rd seed of the tournament who lost the final of this tournament last year against Pablo Andujar made a promising start this year as he won 77% on his first serve as well as 83 percent on his second serve. He ended the match with a win against world no. 63 in 1 hour and 19 minutes.

Up next, Edmund will be facing Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, who bounced back from his knee surgery to win over Cedrik-Marcel Stebe by 6-1 and 7-6.

On the clay court of Marrakech, Tsonga was performing really well as he made short work of the German Stebe as he defeated him in 81 minutes.

For the other matches of the men’s singles in Marrakech, Daniel Taro defeated Mischa Zverev by 6-3 and 6-0 in less than 1 hour.

As for the 4th seed Gilles Simon, he won over Jozef Kovalik by 6-4 and 3-1 while Guido Andreozzi defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas by 6-3 and 7-6.

As gofer the US Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston, taking place across the Atlantic, the fifth seed Taylor Fritz lost against Marcel Granollers-Pujol by6-2, 4-6 and 6-2.

Next, he will be facing Bernard Tomic who won over Denis Kudla by 7-6 and 7-5.
