Nature Valley Classic Birmingham; Ashleigh Barty beats Jennifer Brady while Naomi Osaka suffers shocking exit

Ashleigh Barty, The champion of this year’s French open, eased into the quarterfinals of the Nature Valley Classic held in Birmingham with nine wins in a row. She defeated the American player Jennifer Brady while the former world no. 1 Naomi Osaka suffered from a shocking exit.

The match was delayed at first by rain and then the second round too was interrupted by the proceedings to eventually end the match in Barty’s favor by 6-3 and 6-1.

Barty earlier defeated Jennifer Brady in the second round match who managed to reach the Nottingham Open’s semifinals last week. The American Brady was in good form but was no match for Barty.

Barty can expect to finish as world rank no. 1 by the end of this week; if she manages to win the title after Naomi Osaka got defeated by Yulia Putintseva.

Osaka, who had the chance to hold on to her ranking if she managed to reach the final, got defeated on the grass-court match by 6-2 and 6-3.

In other matches of the day, Venus Williams defeated Qiang Wang by 6-3 and 6-2 and will now face Barty while the 8th seeded Julia Gorges won over Evgeniya Rodina by 6-4 and 6-3.

Somewhere at the Mallorca Open, the top seed player Angelique Kerber won over Maria Sharapova by 6-2 and 6-3 in their 2nd round match.

Kerber, the three-time Grand Slam winner will now face French player Caroline Garcia; winner of the Nottingham Open, who won over Paula Badosa by 6-2, 6-7, and 6-3.
